Vörösmarty Square

Vörösmarty tér or Vörösmarty square is a small but popular square in the Budapest city centre at the northern end of Váci utca.

At the centre of the square facing west is a large statue of poet Mihály Vörösmarty, on the pedestal of which people tend to congregate. Behind the monument is a small fenced park and a fountain flanked by stone lions.

At the north end of the square is the famous Gerbeaud café and stairs to the southern terminus of the Budapest Metro's venerable yellow line (M1).

The square is ringed by expensive cafés and restaurants catering mostly to tourists. Other tenants include offices for Ibusz and Aeroflot as well as the British Embassy.
