The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has five “Titles”, that provide different protections for people with disabilities. Title II of the ADA specifically covers Public Services provided by any state or local government. As a tax funded entity, there are more accessibility requirements than expected of private entities or businesses. Access Board Accessibility Specialists will review what the different accessibility laws are, how they apply, and compare how the requirements for state or local government entities differ than the in the private sector. In addition to these concepts, the accessibility specialists will cover a broad overview of key components that are likely to apply to government funded spaces, such as accessible routes, toilet rooms, and counters. This session will have real time captioning and sign language interpreters available. Individuals are able to submit questions for the speakers in advance through the on-line registration process.

WCAG 2.0 Level AA became the web accessibility requirement under Section 508 in March of 2017. WCAG 2.1 became a finalized standard in June of 2018 and WCAG 2.2 became a finalized standard in in October 2023. The Europe Union has been using WCAG 2.1 for five years. In April 2023, DOJ published a final rule setting WCAG 2.1 as the standard under ADA for state and local governments (Title II). If your organization is using only WCAG 2.0 Level AA to audit your web properties, what accessibility features are you missing?
