Did you know OIDP leverages expert advice to prevent infectious diseases through four federal advisory committees and workgroups? They include: ◾ Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability (ACBTSA): Providing vital policy guidance on blood, blood products, and tissues. ◾ Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA): Offering insights and recommendations to the Secretary on HIV/AIDS programs, policies, and research. ◾ Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB): Advising on strategies to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria and evaluate related government activities. ◾ National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC): Recommending ways to optimize disease prevention through vaccine development and ensuring vaccine safety. These federal advisory committees play an important role in making rules and plans to keep people healthy. Let's keep working together to make sure everyone stays well in the future! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published three new HIV surveillance reports highlighting trends from 2018-2022. Key findings include a 12% decrease in new HIV infections, significant reductions among young people and in the South, and progress in HIV awareness. The reports emphasize the need to address health inequities and expand HIV testing, PrEP, and treatment efforts to achieve national HIV prevention goals. Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP) is currently accepting applications for two fellowship opportunities to focus on STIs, HIV research, AHEAD, and social determinants of health. Applications will be accepted through July 5, 2024 and application review will start the week of June 10. Early submission is encouraged, with a possible start date in July. CDC released the theme for National HIV Testing Day on June 27. The 2024 theme, “Level up your self-love: check your status,” encourages self-respect and health awareness. As part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. initiative, the 57 prioritized jurisdictions are undertaking innovative approaches under the initiative’s Prevent pillar. As the initiative begins its fifth year, members of OIDP’s EHE and Engagement Teams recently visited several jurisdictions to learn more. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Best Practices Compilation features over 100 profiles of effective HIV care strategies, offering a searchable online platform for providers to share and nominate successful approaches.
