Tri-Med Family Care Agreed to Pay $500,000 and Enter into a Compliance Agreement for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Inappropriately Drawing Down Funds from HHS Grants

On February 7, 2024, Tri-Med Family Care, Inc., formerly known as North Georgia Healthcare Center, Inc. (Tri-Med), Ringgold, Georgia, entered into a $500,000 settlement agreement and a 5-year recipient compliance agreement with OIG. The settlement agreement resolves allegations that Tri-Med made grant drawdowns from the HHS Payment Management System that were: (1) used to pay employee salary expenses for time spent on a development project that is unrelated to and inconsistent with the purposes of Tri-Meds HHS grants; (2) used to pay leadership bonuses that are unrelated to and inconsistent with the purposes of Tri-Meds HHS grants; (3) made without adequate documentary backup; or (4) otherwise unallowable. Senior Counsels Michael Torrisi and Katie Fink represented OIG.
