Are your patients considering a trip to perform Hajj or Umrah? Recent cases of meningococcal disease have occurred among travelers who performed Umrah in Saudi Arabia. Protect your patients: ☑️ Make sure they’re up to date on all routine and travel-related vaccines, including meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine. MenACWY vaccine is needed at least 10 days before arriving in Saudi Arabia for Umrah or Hajj. ☑️ Because of known antibiotic resistance, preferentially consider use of antibiotics other than ciprofloxacin for prophylaxis of close contacts of meningococcal disease cases linked to travel to Saudi Arabia. A new CE from MMWR and Medscape shows that vaccination coverage for kindergartners remains lower than pre-pandemic levels, while the exemption rate increased 0.4 percentage points to 3.0%. Exemption rates over 5% can increase the risk of outbreaks from vaccine-preventable diseases. Clinicians and schools should ensure children are fully vaccinated before school entry to prevent possible outbreaks. Earn free CE and learn more: https://bit.ly/3R4vrte
