Future Directions for Foster Care Looking ahead, the focus is on creating a more resilient and responsive foster care system. This includes enhancing support for foster families, streamifying the legal processes for child placement, and leveraging technology to improve service delivery. Additionally, there is an increasing emphasis on preventive measures to keep families intact and reduce the number of children entering the foster care system. #FosterCareFuture #ResilientFamilies #ChildPlacement #TechnologyInCare #PreventiveMeasures #FamilySupport

At Community Foster Care we work by a Pirate Code, but what does this mean? Essentially, it’s about treating everyone fairly on a level playing field. We take the often-traumatic experiences faced by our cared-for children and use them to make educated decisions to best support them and ensure they get the absolute most out of their time in our care. This makes a huge impact on how we best prepare our foster carers as they make their way through the assessment and application process. As we mark over two decades since the inception of the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program, it's time to reflect on the progress and the urgent needs of young adults transitioning out of foster care. Despite strides in support, these young individuals face daunting challenges such as homelessness, unemployment, and the absence of a safety net as they age out of the system. Here are four pivotal ways we can amplify our efforts: Tailor Support to Individual Needs: Recognize the diverse experiences and needs of young adults to offer more personalized support services. Ease Access to Resources: Simplify program application processes and improve accessibility to essential services. Implement Service Off-Ramps, Not Cliffs: Transition services should gradually reduce, not abruptly end, providing a smoother transition to independence. Boost Funding and Guidance: Increase financial support and provide states with the technical assistance needed to effectively serve these young adults. The journey from foster care to adulthood should not be fraught with uncertainty. It's time for policies that not only acknowledge the challenges but actively pave a path to stability and success for every young adult transitioning out of foster care. Your support can change lives. Join us in advocating for a future where every young adult has the foundation they need to thrive. 💪🌈 #FosterCareSupport #TransitionToAdulthood #ChafeeProgram #AdvocacyInAction #YouthEmpowerment

Child protection experts are urgently calling for a nationwide search for new foster carers, with social workers struggling to find placements for children in urgent need. A record number of children are being placed far from home, and foster placements at least 20 miles outside county boundaries have increased by 20% since 2019. It’s estimated that 6,000 new foster families are needed in England to meet the rising demand. The shortage is exacerbated by a 7% increase in the number of children in care since 2019. Our goal is for every council in the country to significantly increase their cohort of foster carers, and reduce their spend-per-approval. That’s why we developed the Foster Care Recruitment Hub – to help address the current challenges.
