“Everyone has a role to play in preventing the tragedy of suicide”. How? Talk about mental health. Share about it on social media. Ask your friends if they’re ok. Tell others it’s ok to not be ok. Talk about going to counseling if you go. Talk about wanting to go to counseling if you don’t go. Support self-care. Listen. Show empathy. Get trained in Mental Health First Aid or another mental health training program. Ask for help. Promote 988. You don’t have to be a counselor, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist to talk about suicide.

Thank you Kate Elkins for sharing the newly-released 2024 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. I'm encouraged to see the holistic and future-looking plan to address suicide in the United States. This coordinated, "whole-of-society" strategy provides concrete recommendations for filling gaps in suicide prevention efforts across four key strategic directions: ▪ Community-Based Suicide Prevention ▪ Treatment and Crisis Services ▪ Surveillance, Quality Improvement, and Research ▪ Health Equity in Suicide Prevention The strategy prioritizes upstream prevention, expands crisis services, leverages data and research, while promoting equity. The strategy lays out a roadmap for dramatically reducing suicide risk nationwide, while highlighting the importance of partnering across sectors and directly involving people with lived experience. It's inspiring to see a comprehensive vision and collaborative approach for saving lives and supporting communities.
