Accomplished bioengineer and longtime NIBIB grantee Robert Langer received the Kavli Prize this week for advances in nanomaterials and drug delivery that has a tremendous effect on the treatment of brain and prostate cancer, schizophrenia and other diseases. Congrats, Robert!

Nine medical device developers recently received emergency use authorization for COVID-19 and flu multiplex tests. “Healing a wound is like building a house. You have to lay the foundation first before you can put in the plumbing,” said Jordan Yaron, a bioengineering assistant research professor at the ASU Biodesign Institute. In an NIBIB-funded study, Yaron and colleagues sought to provide the right treatment at the right time to heal a model of diabetic wounds in mice. Their multistep strategy applied different nanomaterials to the wounds at different time points, supporting both early- and late-stage healing. A team of scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard University have developed a vibrating capsule that’s a noninvasive alternative to current weight-loss options.
