Sun games are the ninth gambling provider to receive a German license after a long wait. Many gambling providers are breaking the German license, some have already given up due to the strict requirements. However, those who have good contacts and are established seem to have good chances of being approved. After Gauselmann has received his German license, sun games are now also on board and may offer online slots in the future.

Sports betting, poker and online slots have been open since the 1st July 2021 in Germany. It’s about a year old and the legal gambling in Germany. But too much hadn’t happened at first. It took time for the first licenses to be available, especially in the area of online slots. Even so long that some companies decided to turn their backs on the German market because the registration procedure was perceived as too cumbersome.
Sun games, in turn, officially received approval a few days ago. The company is in close contact with the Gauselmann Group, which has also received a German license for online slot games. This gives the impression that it is easier to get approval if you are already established in the industry. This could take even more courage for some foreign suppliers to apply for German approvals. To date, other licenses have only been available for sizes known in Germany such as Tipwin and Novomatic.
New laws for online slots
Before the new gambling agreement came into effect, gambling could be offered without significant regulations. Now the following applies: Bets may not exceed 1 Euro per round. You can also only deposit a maximum of 1,000 euros per month. In any case, these rules apply to German gambling sites – EU pharmacies, as we have them in our portfolio here, do not have to comply with the guidelines yet. A bet tax is also omitted, which makes these foreign providers even more attractive. The bet tax actually has to be paid by the site operators in Germany. However, they will transfer the amounts incurred to the players by lowering the RTPs.
Anyone with a German gambling license may legally offer games in Germany. Foreign vendors remain in the grey zone, but this has no impact on players. The sites are currently easy to use and are often considered more appealing: There are a wider range of games, fewer bet and deposit restrictions, and larger bonus packages. German operators find this unfair and fear their competitiveness. One reason why not all foreign vendors apply for German licenses could be as well. In the last few months, there has been additional criticism of the application process.
