SAMHSA Applications Consist of Three Parts |
1. "Part I-Programmatic Guidance" of the Guidance for Applicants (GFA) gives information about specific funding programs. Part I details the material necessary to include in a responsive application for an individual grant announcement. The SAMHSA Website provides brief descriptions of the Grant Funding Announcements and links to copies of the full GFA in downloadable Wordperfect - 6/7/8 and Adobe - Acrobat - formats.
2. "GFA Part II" gives policies and procedures that affect program participants and require additional information in the application. Not all program announcements require GFA Part II; individual Part I announcements will indicate if Part II is required. The latest edition of Part II is always available by mail or electronic downloading from this website. |
3. SAMHSA applications require forms PHS 5161 and SF-424. These forms are available online from the Program Support Center of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Grant Funding Procedure |
All of SAMHSA's Notices of Funding Availability (NOFAs) are officially published in the Federal Register. The date of publication usually signifies the beginning of the time period when applications will be accepted. |
Immediately following this publication, SAMHSA posts a notice listing the title, grant number, brief description, and receipt date on the agency website under Currently Available Grant Opportunities, FY 2001. Applicants should review guidance materials immediately, because some responses may take time to complete.
Each GFA Part I specifies a contact point in the agency to allow applicants to ask technical questions about the program. Occasionally, program staff members will supply additional reference materials that will help applicants frame their responses to program issues.
End of Translation Receipt deadline is given in Part I. The application package should be mailed before the receipt date to the address specified in Part I. At this time SAMHSA does not have the facilities necessary to offer an online application process. |
Each GFA Part I specifies contact points in the agency to allow applicants to ask procedural questions about the application process. |
