The initial 504 rule to protect people with disabilities from discrimination was created before the internet even has been invented – it’s long overdue for an update. The final rule we unveiled today reflects input from advocates and the President’s commitment to this issue.

Xavier Becerra is the 25th Secretary of HHS, and the first Latino to hold the office in the history of the United States. He carries out President Biden's vision to build a healthy America, and his work focuses on ensuring that all Americans have health security and access to health care. Secretary Becerra previously served as Attorney General of the State of California and was the first Latino to hold that office in the history of the state. He also served 12 terms in Congress as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. During his tenure, he was the first Latino to serve as a member of the powerful Committee on Ways and Means. Throughout his career, the Secretary has made it his priority to ensure that Americans has access to the affordable health care they need to survive and thrive. The mission of HHS is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.
