Exciting News! Northern Arizona University College of Nursing at the Yuma campus, a Sensis partner, is offering the groundbreaking Compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (CBSN) program. This initiative aims to address critical workforce shortages in the community by presenting an accelerated path to a nursing degree in just 16 months, compared to the traditional 30-month duration. This program signifies a significant shift in nursing education, highlighting NAU's commitment to tackling pressing healthcare needs. Additionally, it provides scholarship opportunities and fosters partnerships with key healthcare institutions, further demonstrating their dedication to community well-being. In conjunction with this milestone, it's noteworthy to recognize a positive trend: the increasing number of Latinas pursuing higher education. According to Axios Latino, the share of U.S. Latinas with a four-year college degree has nearly quadrupled over the past two decades. This trend underscores the importance Latinas place on higher education as a pathway to high-wage jobs and financial stability. Let's celebrate this progress and continue supporting initiatives that empower communities through education and opportunity. ¡Arriba Latinas! History is important.
Mother, nurse-midwife, nurse researcher, assistant nursing professor, historian, Black feminist, reproductive health justice activist, artist and a poet
Starting Black History Month with my favorite post. In 1886, Spelman College started the first nursing program for Black nurses in the United States. The program ended in 1928 graduating 117 nurses. Remember, when nursing education became institutionalized, Black women were not believed to handle the "rigor" of nursing studies. Our solution was start our own programs. We proved them wrong. #BHM2024 #blacknursinghistory

Oh, hey. It’s me! Some behind the scenes trivia: They were looking for about 45 seconds of video and I wasn’t sure exactly what they’d want. I actually recorded a handful of clips riffing on some of the things that are most important to me: - The DNE program’s world-class faculty and support team. - The dual focus in which Nursing Professional Development is an equal partner with academic nursing education in a curriculum that brings those worlds together so we learn from each other. It’s a really powerful approach. - A class cohort of the most incredible, accomplished, knowledgeable, and supportive classmates any student could ask for. - The fact that what I am learning, from curriculum design to grant writing to test item analysis - has been immediately practical and useful in my own career. - Class assignments and work are personalized and meaningful: I’m working on things I care about to do work that is helping me advance my goals. - A focus on TRUE wellness for us, the program’s students, and for the organizations and students we serve in our careers. - The program is built on a foundation of EBP from the person who literally wrote the book. - It is ALL. ABOUT. NURSING. EDUCATION. It is not a practice or research doctorate with some education classes grafted in, nor is it a general education doctorate that doesn’t speak to the demands of nursing education. This program meets a unique need in an exceptionally adept way. I meant what I said: whether you’re educating nurses in academia or educating them in practice, if your heart and passion is *nursing education* and/or NPD, this is where you need to be. #NursingProfessionalDevelopment #TheOhioStateUniversity #DoctorofNursingEducation #NursingEducation #Facts
